Students wishing to apply for Advanced Standing, i.e. those having partially completed a Professional Degree in Architecture at another insitution, must apply in writing to the Undergraduate Officer to initiate the process. Students who are enrolled in other disciplines, ie. NOT in a professional Architecture degree program, or students studying in Technical Colleges of Architecture, must apply to Year One for fall admission only. The School will need copies of Official Transcripts, course outlines (fully translated), and samples of work to initiate the process. Transfer credits will only be assessed if an offer of admission is made. For a transfer credit to be allowed as a replacement for a core course, equivalency must be determined. To see what our core program looks like, please refer to this program chart.
The applicant may be invited for an interview. Advanced Standing applicants must also write the English précis test. Acceptances as well as level of entry will depend on the quality of the applicants as well as space available. Applications for advanced standing should be made to the Undergraduate Officer, Terri Meyer Boake. If a student is accepted for advanced standing, the starting term will vary on a case by case basis as a function of transfer credits assigned. As ours is a cooperative education degree, and we follow a different academic/work sequence structure, advanced standing admissions will have a very complex curriculum and set of courses to take as a function of the range of courses that have yet to be completed.
Students who have fully completed a Professional Degree in Architecture at another institution, may now apply to our Masters Programme (effective Summer 2005). The School will need copies of Official Transcripts, course outlines (fully translated), and samples of work to initiate the process. Students whose first language is not English must prove a TOEFL score of at least 600. Based upon an assessment of your transcripts, applicants may be invited to present their portfolio at an interview, and will be required to write our English précis test on the interview day. If accepted, applicants will normally be required to complete a qualifying year in our undergraduate programme. The courses taken will vary on a case by case basis as a function of assessed core course deficiencies. Such deficiencies may arise as a result of geographic differences that affect core technical requirements for Canadian certification. Inquiries should be sent to the Graduate Officers, John McMinn and Robert Jan van Pelt. More information about the Master of Architecture programme can be found here.
If you are applying from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT), you will only be considered for admission to first year. You must have strong grades in the required Grade 12 courses within the past 2-3 years. Pre-university preparation from the Grade 12 courses is essential for success in our program. CAAT courses are not considered equivalent to the Grade 12U courses, but you should have strong grades in them to confirm your academic abilities. Note that we do not grant transfer credits for CAAT courses towards your architecture degree, and completion of your architecture degree will require the full 4 2/3 years.
