studio + general facilities
home/resources/studio + general facilities
In addition to studio spaces, classrooms and administrative offices, there are a great variety of support facilities available to students. These facilities are intended to provide students with access to- and experience with state-of-the-art equipment for use in their studio projects as well as substantial research facilities to aid in academic work.
GRAPHIC FACILITIES
There are black-and-white card-operated photocopiers located in the
undergraduate studio and in the library. High-quality colour and
black-and-white digital printing is available through Architecture
Computing and media.
IMMERSIVE AND PANORAMIC VISUALIZATION FACILITIES
A three-screen panoramic display facility is available for visualizing
urban developments and architecture in real time, that is, one can view
virtual representations of cities and architecture as if one were
walking through or flying over these virtual environments. For graduate
students involved in research on spatial behavior, the School of Architecture
is collaborating with the Department of Psychology and their Research
Laboratory for Immersive Virtual Environments (RELIVE) where head-mounted
panoramic displays are used to explore and test behavior in virtual
simulations of real and imaginary architectural and urban environments.
STUDENT STUDIO TELEPHONES
Telephones are provided free of charge for the use of all architecture
students. They are located between the two studios at either end of the
central service corridor. The phone number for both lines is (519) 888-4567.
The phone at the south end of the corridor, next to the first year studio
is ext. 27644, the phone at the north end next to the second-year studio
is ext. 27643. The phones can receive calls 24hrs. a day through the
University’s automated operator. Please cooperate in maintaining this
system by answering the phone and then shouting for the person the caller
is looking for. You cannot make long-distance calls from this line.
For toll calls use the pay phone adjacent to the ground floor ramp.
STUDIO SHOWERS ROOM
Because work habits often develop which promote far too many hours spent
in the studio environment, lockable shower rooms (one each for men and
women) are located off the vestibule of the main third-floor washrooms.
They are available for architecture students on a 24-hour basis. Please
keep this space clean.
